There were signs of improvement in Ericsson’s latest quarterly results, but its over-reliance on 5G materializing quickly remains worrying – especially just days after the head of arch-rival Huawei had downplayed the significance of 5G for short term growth. The statements from the two companies’ chiefs certainly took different tones about the new mobile network. At Ericsson, CEO Börje Ekholm said in a statement about the first quarter 2018 results: “Looking ahead, we expect the rapidly increasing focus on 5G to continue, with initial business discussions focusing on enhanced mobile broadband. We continue to work closely with customers to define the optimal business models to enable them to tap into new revenue streams and capture the full value of 5G.”…
