Next year will see the increasing adoption of WiFi 7 and possibly the very first WiFi 8 test devices, many of which will use radios operating in the 6 GHz band. But as global regulators take different approaches to the allocation of the 6 GHz band, there will be increasing fragmentation of 6 GHz access around the world. While mobile network vendors and operators will claim that XR and VR applications will be great drivers of mobile traffic rates in the coming years, the truth is that the brunt of the labor will fall on the humble WiFi network.
