The largest ever sustained nuclear fusion reaction has been recorded at the JET facility in Oxford. Weighing in at just over 16.4 kWh – the same as around four rotations of the average wind turbine – the record more than doubles the one previously achieved in 1997. The reaction itself was sustained for approximately five seconds in an experiment at the Joint European Torus (JET) facility in Oxford, UK, as part of the EUROfusion collaboration between 4,800 researchers from EU member states as well as the UK, Ukraine, and Switzerland.
