Digital signage firm NanoLumens has signed a new strategic partnership with Bluetooth beacon vendor Gimbal (a Qualcomm spinout), to add beacon functionality to its entire portfolio. The USB beacons will be plugged into the panels, allowing NanoLumens customers to add mobile app integrations and proximity services to their deployments. With geofencing and the proximity-based functions of Gimbal’s U-Series 5 beacons, which can be inserted into available USB ports and are rather well-suited to these sorts of retrofit installations, NanoLumens doesn’t have to adapt its current models.
