China’s Gotion High-Tech and the Moroccan government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore setting up a battery gigafactory with a potential $6.3 billion worth of investment. The factory would be the first of its kind in Africa, but would more than likely commit a majority of its output to European markets due to demand dynamics in the electric vehicle (EV) market. Africa hasn’t seen too much investment when it comes to battery factories yet, but that isn’t to say it doesn’t make any sense.
