India will sell 2251.25 MHz of spectrum for 4G services in March 2021, valuing the frequencies at a huge INR3.92 trillion ($53.2bn). The sale will cover spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands. Authorities are to publish Notice Inviting Applications (NIAs) that will include details of all auction rules later this month. The sale would allow Reliance Jio to renew licences that are due to expire soon, while its rivals, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, may use it to expand network coverage.
