Indonesia’s Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) has adopted Nokia’s Energy Efficiency software to reduce carbon emissions across its RAN. Energy improvements are needed, especially given the high demands of the RAN, but the advances may be marginal at this stage, given that IOH still has a huge demand for fossil fuels, and the changes will only affect cell sites provided by Nokia. Nokia’s Energy Efficiency package is part of its Autonomous Networks product line. It uses AI and machine learning to analyse real-time traffic patterns so that telcos can switch off unused RAN equipment.
