The Industrial IoT is attracting great interest from vendors and mobile operators as a potentially decisive proving ground for 5G that has so far largely resisted penetration by wireless services. Autonomous driving is another big draw for 5G but differs in that it is an emerging field that will rely on mobile communications from the outset. It is true autonomous vehicle control will also play a part in the IIoT and benefit from some of the same technical advances, but in a more controlled environment that will allow much faster progression.
