Intel has invested a lot of capital both literally and metaphorically in its target of gaining a 40% share of the 5G infrastructure chip market by 2022. The company is now boasting it has reached that target a year ahead of schedule, which does reflect a highly successful campaign to seize a significant market share of this burgeoning field Major competitors in various aspects of 5G infrastructure include Marvell and Broadcom, and equipment vendors’ own chip arms, notably Huawei’s HiSilicon and Samsung.
