Google may be selling Motorola Mobility to Lenovo, but it cannot resist playing in the handset market, despite the conflicts of interest that sets up in the Android ecosystem. Part of the reason is to showcase new Android features and Google services in an ‘optimized’ way, encouraging interest in developers and users. Another is to try to change some of the rules of the cellphone industry in favor of web providers, as opposed to hardware makers or operators.
