It seems certain that Verizon and other operators will use LTE technology to provide residential wireless broadband and pay-TV, as well as using LTE Broadcast to offer a mobile pay-TV service. The equipment is now becoming available to do just, as recent launches by ZTE and Comtrend show. At least two new high-performance LTE residential gateways were launched at Mobile World Congress last month. They’ll be used to provide wireless triple play services to homes: high speed broadband with its over-the-top services, traditional pay-TV and telephony. Initially that’ll be used in sparsely populated areas but ultimately, as LTE speeds increase, they will also be applicable in areas of higher density.
