A new forecast just out from aerospace research company Cirium for aircraft sales suggests that $2.9 trillion of orders will be placed between now and 2041. If the forecast is right, it would mean a huge increase in CO2 levels from aircraft, unless many of these aircraft are hydrogen powered. Cirium has been providing information on the airline industry for 112 years, but fails to mention hydrogen in the exec summary of this report. The report assumes a resumption of 2019 levels of consumer flight activity by October 2023, but this is a new Scenario for the forecaster – previous forecasts just would not come in high enough so it changed its methodology as it wants to reassure its audience…
