Pattern Energy in the US says it has begun to build out SunZia, which will become the largest clean energy infrastructure project in US history, costing roughly $8 billion. It will consist of 3.5 GW of wind energy, running across a new 550 mile 525 kV HVDC transmission line – enough electricity to fully power half a million homes. The transmission line will connect central New Mexico and south-central Arizona and have capacity to transport 3,000 MW of electricity. It will also be able to connect to parts of California and it should reach 2.5 million homes in total.
