Finland’s Elisa turns tractor into 5G remote-controlled workstation Finnish telco Elisa has converted a mass-produced tractor into a work machine remote-controllable via 5G, to carry out tasks that would be dangerous for humans in the field. This follows a deal between the operator and tractor maker Valtra to develop 5G-controlled machines. The tractors can now be customized to operate over 5G without a driver sitting in the cab and controlled remotely in principle from any distance. Until now radio-controlled tractors have required operators to stay within sight of the vehicle, including earlier models from Valta operated over 3G.
