Mixed news coming from the Far East this week left us pondering the angle of this article as we’re not sure if praise or criticism is in order for South Korea, or the Republic of Korea as it is officially known. First, the praise: KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) has begun a HVDC (high voltage direct current) research project which is due for completion in 2025 in light of more than 14GW of wind power coming online from 2030. Through the project, KEPCO plans to upgrade its network along the western coast of South Korea and deliver power from high-capacity offshore wind farm sites to key demand centres in the country’s capital, Seoul.
