South Korea’s KT Corp has said it will double its cybersecurity spending to KRW 200 billion ($145 million) a year. Given the growing number of high-profile attacks, expect other international telcos to follow in KT’s footsteps. KT’s announcement is partly led by the very high-profile and reputationally damaging attack on SK Telecom this year, the fallout of which sent possibly hundreds of thousands of subscribers across to KT. This very public cybersecurity commitment will help the new customers stay.
