Italian transmission system operator Terna has produced a report concluding the country will require strategically deployed energy storage projects in the realm of 71 GWh of total capacity with the power rating at an eighth of the storage capacity, or 8.875 GW. This is in addition to existing project pipelines that have already been procured through prior auctions. Terna plans on updating this study every two years to account for renewable energy and energy storage deployment within the country which will change requirements.
