The UK government committed itself to an expensive electricity future for its energy security strategy this week, endorsing a long held Conservative party manifesto pledge, that a quarter of electricity would come from nuclear. It has appointed a supremo who has immediately granted vast sums of public money to companies that he used to work for. The long term target is to reach 2050 with 24 GW (25%) of capacity coming from nuclear from what it believes is 14% today, targeting a ramp up in generation from 7GW to 24GW over the next 30 years.
