MWC saw two major open source related announcements that seek to exert US influence over 6G systems. The announcements are both pragmatic and depressing for the wireless sector, in the context of a US-Israel-led war in the Gulf, a war which was a major disruption for travel at the annual conference, although talk of the military activity was limited to references of ‘travel disruption.’ In the run up to MWC, Nvidia announced a commitment to make 6G on “AI-native, open, secure and trustworthy platforms.” This announcement, alongside a small group of big hitters (Booz Allen, BT Group, Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, MITRE, Nokia, OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation, ODC, SK Telecom, SoftBank Corp, and T-Mobile) looks like Nvidia’s way of pitching itself…
