A cluster of so called European Think Tanks this week, working under the title Epicenter, with members in Denmark, UK, Poland, France, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Germany and Sweden have come out with a 38 page report pushing back against the idea of Europe responding to the US Inflation Reduction Act with its own raft of legislation. Many of the organizations are inherently pro-market and against subsidies of any type, and they are variously connected to fossil fuel companies and even the tobacco industry – for instance the UK member is the Institute for Economic Affairs, a hangover from Thatcherite right wing ideology, with undisclosed backers but some funding from fossil fuels, gambling, and tobacco.
