In the first 8 months of 2023, China installed 199 GW of new generating capacity including 113 GW solar, 34 GW coal and gas, 29 GW wind, 7 GW hydropower, and 1 GW of nuclear capacity, supported by 14 MVa of substation equipment over 220 kV and 20,000 kilometers of transmission lines above 220 kV. This brings China’s total solar capacity to 510 GW and wind to 400 GW. Rystad Energy has come out this week saying China will install at least 150 GWac this year, then 165 GW and 170 GW in 2025.
