Shuangliang Group has reported a $58 million sale of polysilicon production equipment to Omani company United Solar Polysilicon (FZC) SPC, for a 100,000-ton facility to be built in Oman at the Sohar Freezone. This would be one of very few polysilicon factories built outside of China in the past decade, and follows news from last year of a new silicon metal facility (the 2N purity feedstock for the Siemens Process) being built at the same location with a 50,000-ton production capacity and $68 million investment (given that industrial silicon is worth only a few dollars per kilogram, transporting it to a polysilicon factory is rarely economic).
