The UK’s Sustainable Aviation coalition has convened to pledge net-zero emissions in the country’s aviation sector by 2050. The group will release a “decarbonization road map” in the near future, which will likely include proposals in smarter flight operations, new engine technology and low-carbon fuels. Over a third of the emission reductions are likely to be tackled through ‘carbon offsetting’, a method which Greenpeace argues is simply an attempt to “greenwash” the industry and an “excuse to carry on with business as usual while shifting the responsibility to cut emissions to someone else, somewhere else, and some other time.” The group has also stated that it expects to see a 70% increase in the number of flights taken over this…
