Solar net metering in the US is facing a legal challenge from the New England Ratepayers Association, channeled through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The appeal has demanded that “exclusive federal jurisdiction” should be given “over wholesale energy sales from generation sources located on the customer side of the retail market,” which essentially means that FERC would have control over the rates that markets pay to consumers for electricity fed back to the grid.
