EV advocates in the US welcomed the news this week that two South Korean battery makers – SK Innovation and LG Won2tn – had resolved a multibillion-dollar dispute that would have disrupted manufacturing plans at automakers Ford and Volkswagen. The settlement follows the US ITC’s decision in February to place a 10-year import ban on SK for illegally acquiring technology and trade secrets from its competitor. Instead, SK will pay LGWon2tn $1.8 billion in cash and a running royalty with regard to the technologies, while the two companies agreed to drop all pending litigation.
