Nasdaq-listed The Metals Company (TMC) has reportedly produced cobalt sulphate from deep-sea polymetallic nodules collected from the ocean floor, technically proving the capability to produce metal salts from undersea metallic nodules. TMC is one of the strongest industry proponents of undersea mining, as the company owns the rights to two major deposits of metallic nodules. It owns these deposits through subsidiaries which have partnered with the governments of Nauru and Tonga, small island-states banking on the additional revenue from loaning out their exclusive economic zones (EEZs) to generate state revenue.
