Telcos, especially in the US, have been scratching their heads over the implications for them and their services of President Trump’s bold and contentious plan for the ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense system. This appears modelled on Ronald Regan’s abandoned Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) of the 1980s, dubbed Star Wars, while being inspired by Israel’s much more recent Iron Dome. The latter was deployed in 2011 with significant assistance and technology from the US, and has been at least a qualified success, succeeding in intercepting over 90% of missiles targeting the country.
