The UK’s recently launched AI Energy Council has correctly highlighted the challenge of generating and distributing electricity to the fast-expanding generation of data centers largely or entirely dedicated to AI workloads. But the various bodies involved, notably the UK government and its Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) run by Ed Miliband, have failed to outline any coherent plan for generating that electricity consistently, nor crucially of reducing drastically the UK’s excessive industrial electricity prices.
