A steady stream of 5G auctions continues around the world, including the latest in a string of US spectrum sales over the past couple of years, in millimeter wave and midband frequencies. The latest is FCC Auction 110, for spectrum between 3.45 GHz and 3.55 GHz, which would be a useful addition to the C-band airwaves in which the large operators invested heavily earlier this year – or an alternative way to secure valuable midband licences for those that missed out. On Friday night, bids in the auction had topped $1.5bn after 11 rounds, as the process was paused for a long weekend break.
