The USA continues with its quest to build its own 5G industry and be able to sever many hi-tech trading ties with China. It has already proposed a $1bn fund to support 5G equipment start-ups and now two efforts have been mooted, with the aim of creating a common platform based on US software and other innovations. The first plan has attracted participation from AT&T, Microsoft, Dell and others and looks to bring together diverse 5G-related software developments by US companies, to start to build a comprehensive platform that would have no Chinese involvement, and could be harnessed by the whole US industry.
