Verizon has been a vocal thorn in the side of the push for WiFi to be allowed to operate in the 6 GHz band. Last week, the telco petitioned the FCC to reconsider its opposition to 6 GHz WiFi, in a letter penned together with wireless trade association CTIA, the Fixed Wireless Communications Coalition, and public comms safety firm APCO International. The argument is that incumbent users of 6 GHz unlicensed spectrum (mainly public safety messaging alert systems used in utilities) are not properly protected from harmful interference in the band (between 5925 MHz and 7125 MHz).
