Vodafone has unilaterally declared an end to the era of IoT hype, as it celebrates connecting a healthcare monitor to pass the 200 million mark for connected devices. The real message was that in some of its key European markets, especially Germany and UK, Vodafone has been almost alone in actively pursuing low-margin IoT customers, and succeeding paradoxically by achieving the sort of numbers which scaled up across the industry would have come closer to those bullish forecasts it was decrying.
