A partnership has emerged in the UK which aims to recycle rare earth elements and other materials from decommissioned wind turbines, more specifically their magnets which are critical components for the electric generators found inside their nacelles. A consortium made of EMR, a sustainable materials firm, HyProMag, a rare earths recycling company, Offshore Renewables Energy Catapult, Magnomatics, and the University of Birmingham will focus on creating a circular supply chain that could ease the burden on the OEMs which use them. Such OEMs are already sweating more than a few bullets in this day and age since every sustainable technology known seems set to significantly reshuffle the world of mining.
