Africell, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s newest mobile operator, has reportedly signed up more than one million subscribers since its launch in November 2012. Chairman Mbayo Lufungula Pelisa said his company ‘is hellbent on improving the quality of services, which are execrable. This will have a positive impact on the rate of penetration, quality of service (QoS) and the cost of services.’ The growth comes even though its rivals Vodacom, Oasis (Tigo) and Airtel all terminated their interconnection agreements with the newcomer.
