Despite a recent summit meeting with the European Commission, Hutchison Whampoa still has a long road ahead to secure its acquisition of Telefonica O2 UK, to merge with its own UK arm, 3UK. The company said the hearing had given it “the opportunity to have another fruitful exchange with the Commission and the member states’ representatives”, but there was no news about possible conditions for approval of the £10.25bn deal, which the EC may oppose because it would reduce the number of MNOs in the UK market.
