Many vendors are racing to the edge as real use cases start to emerge from the initial hype. Juniper Networks’ Mist Systems recently announced Mist Edge, an edge appliance for managing dense local wireless LANs, which was unveiled along with a new WiFi 6 access point, the AP43. The appliance deploys Mist’s AI engine – used for intelligent load balancing and fault prediction for the firm’s cloud-managed WiFi access points – on local premises along with Juniper’s microservices architecture. This is the first major news to come from Mist since Juniper acquired the wireless LAN start-up earlier this year for $405m.
