There has been a string of start-ups in the USA which have proposed creative business models based on obscure spectrum bands, only to fail because of opposition from regulators or other service providers. Lightsquared was the highest profile of these, and though it re-emerged from bankruptcy protection with a new name, Ligado, it has still not succeeded in launching its planned wholesale-only network in mobile satellite spectrum. Rivada and M2Z Networks have pursued similar goals, but according to Wall Street analysts B Riley FBR, there are brighter prospects for another such challenger, Anterix.
