This week the UK government compromised on its aim to accelerate the emergence of EV vehicles by bringing forward its ban for new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, from 2040 to 2035. There are likely to be a number of largely unintended consequences and while we applaud it, it is a compromise, because there is clearly going to be both backlash and passive resistance to this move, and so the obvious option of 2030, was rejected in favor of a halfway house. The UK press went to town on the statement, choosing to suggest that since hybrids are now known to be worse for the environment than petrol cars then the same might turn out to be true for EVs.…
