Intel has announced a $1bn investment fund to support technology developments that could be integrated into its foundry services in future, including an intensified focus on the RISC-V open source processor architecture. Intel is already spending $20bn to build two chip factories in Ohio as it bids to become a major foundry to compete with TSMC and Samsung. Intel Foundry Services (IFS) will support multiple processor architectures including its own x86, ARM and RISC-V.
