The US’ solar manufacturing giant First Solar has acquired Evolar AB, a Swedish perovskite company, for $38 million with a further $42 million to be paid contingent on future research goals being met. First Solar’s status as the world’s biggest thin-film manufacturer, with around 10 GW output scale at present and growing, make it especially well-suited to explore tandem solar products – and in April 2022 it announced a partnership with distributor Sunpower concerning a CdTe-Si tandem, surprisingly since almost all tandem discourse revolves around perovskites.
