Bernreuter Research, the long established polysilicon market report company, has identified a rise in shipments of non-Chinese (i.e. US, German and Malaysian, coming from Hemlock Semiconductor, Wacker, and OCI) solar polysilicon to Vietnam, which it explains is going to the small amount of wafer manufacturing that exists outside of China. Non-Chinese wafer manufacturing is so small that it’s almost been out-scaled by First Solar’s 12.1 GW output of Cadmium Telluride technology in 2023 – in other words, some 40% of non-Chinese solar manufacturing (all the way up into the wafer segment) is not even silicon PV at all.
