In Q1 2024, China installed 3.76 GW / 9.18 GWh of energy storage, with a further 1.98 GW / 6.54 GWh in the month of April alone. With Q1 always a much quieter period for posting project completions, China’s grid battery industry is set to grow by anywhere between 100% and 150% this year, up from 22.6 GW / 48.7 GWh added last year – so if we compare GW to GW, it’s going from 10% the size of the solar industry, to 20% (given that this year China’s solar industry will not accelerate by more than 15% due to grid constraints).
