Earlier this year we covered China’s pursuit of ever-larger wind turbine sizes in a couple of articles – especially noteworthy in the offshore category, growing larger than 15 MW and even 20 MW. The Chinese are also building some onshore farms with 10 MW size now, but it’s in offshore where the size changes are most remarkable in both absolute and relative terms. One of the questions we had to ask was – with Western manufacturers struggling to invest past the 15 MW mark, would Chinese OEMs have enough of a technical advantage to break into Western markets outright?
