Battery energy storage project development has reached a new, monumental scale, with financial close reached for a 4.1 GWh complex in Chile, and battery supply set into place for a still bigger 7.8 GWh set of three projects in Saudi Arabia. The news in Saudi is a 7.8 GWh battery procurement from China’s Sungrow, to Saudi Arabia’s Algihaz, for sites at Najran, Madaya and Khamis Mushait which are to be commissioned in 2025. This is equivalent to several months of additions in the US or China, and dwarfs Saudi’s solar fleet, not to mention its negligible wind.
