Austrian solar thermal company Heliovis has commissioned a Solar Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) in Oman, for local customer ARA Petroleum at the Qarat al Milh oilfield. While concentrated solar power (CSP) has mostly been sidelined by standard wind and solar power, it continues to stubbornly maintain business models in based around long-duration energy storage or, as in this case, industrial heat provision. Heliovis uses a trough-based design, like that of Focal Line Solar – a startup we interviewed in 2021, but some of whose operations were unfortunately located in eastern Ukraine.
