The 2024 Beijing International Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition (CWP2024) saw seven different new turbine products announced of 20 MW size or greater. We’ve already covered in past issues how expanded production capacity of carbon fiber at lower prices is enabling this, so this week let’s look into wind turbine voltage. The standard in the industry has been below 1 kV, often around 600 Volts, but now Windey Energy Technology and Sungrow, two Chinese manufacturers, are now pushing for 1.8 kV turbines.
