The US Energy Information Administration (IEA) reports that 63 GW of utility-scale generation capacity will be commissioned in the US in 2025, up from 48.6 GW in 2024 – this will be the largest annual result since 2002. Half of the increase comes from battery storage additions, which will be up 80% year-on-year, to 18.2 GW. On the other side of the scale, fossil fuel plants will be decommissioned to the tune of 1.6 GW petroleum, 2.6 GW natural gas, and 8.1 GW coal – very much against the vision of the Trump Administration.
