In future, enterprise wide area networks (WANs) could be connected by 5G rather than MPLS or other wireline broadband technologies, says Cisco. The company sees 5G as a way to increase its presence in the telecoms space – where it is currently suffering a decline (see separate item). Part of that push relies on 5G’s requirement for higher bandwidth transport networks, meaning more equipment sales for Cisco.
