Q4 2022 saw 72 GW installed worldwide, of which 62.5 GW was in the 20 national markets which we track individually. The final total for 2022’s global solar installs comes to 221 GW, virtually identical to the 222 GW we predicted four months ago. China’s Q4 posting of 35.3 GW was less than we expected, but other markets such as Brazil exceeded expectations. In 2020, half of yearly installations occurred in Q4, but in 2022 only one-third was left to Q4, reflecting China’s shift to the rooftop sector (as well as Vietnam not replicating its Q4 2020 boom).
