Maersk has announced that its recent NotPetya outage will cost it between $200m-$300m in lost revenue, after the shipping firm was struck by the malware. The admission coincides with CDN and DDoS-outage provider Akamai’s latest State of the Internet report, which always makes for interesting reading. Akamai has seen an increase in the number of attacks in the past three months, which will be adding to the worries of enterprises like Maersk. Martin McKeay, Akamai’s Senior Security Advocate, notes that even with months of time to patch, following the WannaCry attack, many companies still fell victim to the NotPetya malware attack – with shipping magnate Maersk noting that a Petya-induced outage cost it some $300m.
